How Heart Menders is Governed

In the language of modern "non-profit organizations," it is called governance. It covers how we are structured, our oversight, our accountability and our approach to financial integrity. Because we have pioneered this work from scratch, so to speak, we have our own unique approach, but we still try to follow best practices for proper accountability and governance. The sections below discuss some of the main features of Heart Menders leadership and approach.

Board of Advisors

To provide her with a spiritual "covering" (since she is a widow), Carol Gordon has the following board of spiritual advisors:
  • John Ward, Overseer, Oklahoma Apostolic Prayer Network
  • Dr. Jerry Mash, The Church at the North Gate and Mission Native America
  • Pastor Ricky Musgrove, Faith Church
  • Mike Jestes, Oklahoma Family Policy Council
Also, she maintains a close relationship with her Pastor, Gail Jagd-Daniels of Faith Fellowship Church in Oklahoma City.

Board Development

We are always striving to improve our governance and a strong and capable Board is a key part of our strategy.  We are looking for experienced business leaders who believe in the mission of Heart Menders and are willing to serve on our Working Board.  Please pray that the Lord opens our eyes to see His plan.

Strategic Administration Plan

We have used some non-profit management best practices to perform an internal Organizational Assessment. We have compared the administration of Heart Menders to a set of standards to see how we "measure up." Out of this assessment exercise, we have put in place a plan to help us fill in the gaps. We are on a path toward organizational maturity and accountability, and we have a prioritized plan to get there.

You can click here to read the results of our internal assessment.  (Our Strategic Administration Plan will be posted soon.)

Financial Management Strategy

Even though we are a small ministry in size, we aspire to great things! To attain excellence in financial management for a faith-based non-profit organization, we follow the standards of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, which can be read here. Although we are too small to be an official member of the EFCA, we have adapted their recommendations to our organization's operations.
